Got a Nokia phone with GPS? Go walking, running, cycling… and want to know how far and how fast you have gone? Nokia have a very nice beta of Sports Tracker, a training management site like Nike + which uses the GPS capability of phones like the N95 and marries it up with a training scheduler, maps and timing to let you create running routes and keep data on your training. All you need is an arm wallet to carry your phone in and you’re set.
If you want to you can share routes, post your training information to your blog and add media like photos to your routes. Nice.
RefWorks is genius. It helps you collate all those searches in databases for journal articles and papers and puts them into a bibliography that you can download!!! Why have I just found out about this!!!
There are few conferences that I really wish I could go to, but TED is one, and not just for the very cool conference bags! The TED 2008 conference is almost here. You can follow the build up at the TED Blog and watch some amazing talks like this one from Isobel Allende and this one from LOST creator JJ Abrams:
I wonder… what would you talk about given 15 minutes with some of the smartest people on the planet?
I’ve just watched possibly the best display of football in years. Barcelona were simply amazing against Celtic who did well to score twice but lost 3-2. What a game. Ronaldinho, Henry and Messi were unbelievable. Football the way it’s meant to be played.
In other news Motherwell 3 – 1 Inverness. C’mon the ‘Well!
I know this has been around for a while but TED (Technology Entertainment Design) have been busy updating their content and there’s loads of great new talks to inspire and amaze. Well worth a look.
For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about… Swap Shop was BBC TV’s Saturday morning kids show when I was a kid. It involved Noel Edmonds (Deal or No Deal) brokering deals between kids to swap stuff they don’t want anymore.
It’s back hosted by Basil Brush and a bloke called Barney and it’s great. Very low tech in ‘you could make this at home with a camcorder’ kind of way. Full of games with gunge and random swaps it’s a real throw back.
Swap of the day: PS2 for a football!!! Haven’t these kids heard of EBAY!!!
Santa brought me a nice new copy of The Joshua Tree! I bought the album first time around the day it came out on vinyl. I lent it to some one and got it back with a big scratch on it. So, 20 years later I have a nice new remastered 20th anniversary cd.
And, yes, it is the best album in the world, ever!
