baseball is back!

March 31, 2008

Regular readers will know that I’ve developed a liking for baseball following David’s obsession and our trip to NYC in 2006 where we took in a Red Sox v Yankees game (yankees won big).  David is a big Sox fan and so I had to choose the Yankees.  He very bravely rode the subway to Yankee Stadium in his scarlet Sox jersey and was abused by a drunk yankees fan all the way there.

That said it wasn’t anything like a celtic fan getting on the subway to Ibrox!

Well now baseball is back for a new season and the whole family have a fantasy team each in the MLB Open so we’ll see who wins this year.

MLB fantasy draft

February 22, 2008

Last year I played a couple of teams in the Major League Baseball fantasy league and did rather well!  So this year I’ve got two team and both look ok.  The season doesn’t start until the end of March and Ben has with A-Rod (he got first pick!) and David didn’t get Ortiz so we’ll see how we all get on.

busy busy

October 8, 2007

Sorry for the lack of blogging recently.  It has been a pretty hectic few weeks and this week looks just as busy.  The autumn seems to be one of those busy times in the Church year when all the organisations start back after a summer break and people want to move ahead.

I’m running some basic youth work training over the next few months on the first Wednesday of the month.

Organising a training day called Connected on 24th November in Edinburgh on Digital Church with Ewan McIntosh leading a day of learning to blog and podcast and stuff.  Get in touch using the contact page if you want more details.

Teaching a Communication module at ICC

Doing my own Master in Research

Leading worship lots - Nairn this Sunday with a visit to my sister too

And trying to have a life including swimming with Ben and Jack yesterday, watching Scotland get beat at rugby and watching the Baseball playoffs.  I think I need a lie down!

Baseball down to the wire

October 1, 2007

To end my Sport-fest weekend I watched some brilliant baseball last night.  I saw the Rockies grind out a win (just) to make it to a one game play off with the Padres to get into the post season.  160 games and they are still tied. Amazing!  How the tie-breaker is on NASN!!!

Sporting Day!

September 29, 2007

Today has been a day of sports!  I’ve watched:

some golf - the President’s Cup - c’mon the rest of the world!

2 games of football (soccer) with Motherwell playing pretty well against Rangers, ending up with a 1-1 draw and Man United beating Birmingham 1-0

a college (American) football game which the Bulls won

the F1 grand prix qualifying where Lewis Hamilton is on pole for tomorrow’s race

half of the Wales v Fiji game from the Rugby World Cup where Fiji won to knock Wales out and all of Scotland’s game against Italy where we won by 2 points to proceed to the quarter finals

and I’m now watching the Phillies v Nationals in the MLB.

Who says Saturdays aren’t fun!

A-Rod does it again!

April 19, 2007

For those of you who know nothing about baseball that will mean nothing…

To those of you who do, Alex Rodriguez is having a pretty impressive April for the Yankees.  Another walk off homer to sweep the Indians before the trip to Boston.

Oh, and I’ve got him in my MLB.com fantasy team!!!

And well done to Mark Beuhrle who pitched a no hit game for the White Sox last night.

Baseball Fantasy

March 11, 2007

I’m playing fantasy baseball this season in the MLB Open.  I’ve been to one game ever!!!  Boston Red Sox at the Yankees.  It was a great day out!  (the yankees won by loads)

My league’s draft was last night (in the middle of the night) and here’s who I got on auto pilot:

Round Player
1 Chase Utley (2B, PHI)
2 Mark Teixeira (1B, TEX)
3 Hideki Matsui (OF, NYY)
4 Hanley Ramirez (SS, FLA)
5 Melvin Mora (3B, BAL)
6 New York Mets (P, NYM)
7 Mike Piazza (C, OAK)
8 Randy Winn (OF, SF)
9 Chris Young (OF, ARI)
10 Orlando Cabrera (SS, LAA)
11 Troy Glaus (3B, TOR)
12 Bengie Molina (C, SF)
13 Brad Wilkerson (OF, TEX)
14 Mark DeRosa (2B, 3B, OF, CHC)
15 Ryan Garko (1B, CLE)

I have to say it doesn’t look like a bad squad although I could have probably done with another pitching crew… and David Ortiz… but hey… you can’t have everything!
