If you’re a Firefox user, I’d recommend Zotero. Similar sort of thing but not web-based so not just so portable. It does have the advantage that it’s free though. I’ve been using it since last year and it certainly makes life a lot easier for footnotes and bibliographies, especially with its MS Word plugin.

I thought RefWorks was free too. It is for me! Or is that because Caledonian subscribe?

It might be because the uni subscribe. I’ll have another look. Edinburgh has a similar set of tools but you need to use their computers to access it. There is a discount if you want to buy it for personal use but that’s about it.

Did you try using the Athens Log in? There is a link under the main log in…

Just tried it. Doesn’t look as though Edinburgh are signed up to it. I get a ‘you don’t have permission….’ message. I guess, since they already use EndNote, they don’t want to pay for any others.

I’ve managed to register and log in using Athens. Got a wee message saying ‘new NHS Lanarkshire user’. I’m guessing it must be something to do with how I’m registered with Athens???
I’ll give it a go and let you know how I get on.
